Advancing Emergency Airway Management at RETmobil
Share
Our colleagues are currently at the #RETmobil international trade fair in Germany, showcasing advanced ventilation solutions for emergency airway management.
Among the featured technologies is #Ventrain, a minimally invasive manual ventilation device designed for critical “cannot intubate, cannot ventilate” (CICV) situations where conventional airway management techniques are not viable.
Ventrain enables both active inspiration and controlled expiration through an ultra-small airway lumen, based on the principle of Flow-Controlled Ventilation (#FCV). This approach ensures effective oxygenation and CO2 removal even in cases of severe airway obstruction, offering a life-saving alternative in life-threatening emergencies.
Combined with #Cricath—a percutaneous cricothyrotomy catheter used for fast and safe airway access via the cricothyroid membrane—the system forms a comprehensive emergency airway solution. While Cricath provides rapid and reliable access, Ventrain ensures efficient ventilation through that very access point.
Together, these technologies are transforming the management of critical airway emergencies by allowing for more physiological and controlled ventilation when traditional methods fail, ultimately enhancing patient safety in the most demanding clinical scenarios.
Key terms used:
- Active inspiration/controlled expiration: For ventilación activa/espiración controlada.
- Ultra-small airway lumen: For apertura de vía aérea muy pequeña.
- CO2 removal: For eliminación de CO₂.
- Comprehensive solution: For solución integral.
